Our History
In 1920, a century celebration milestone in downtown Indianapolis occurred with the opening of a brand new grain and flour mill, the company was known as Acme-Evans. Historical photos of that new mill show that the Company roots were as old as the State of Indiana. Based in Indianapolis, this company grew to become one of America's leading flour millers. About eighty years after Acme-Evans was founded, a mill in Rochester, Indiana took on a new life to bring wheat flour and corn meal to northern Indiana as the 1900's began. It also became a very successful flour milling business. Both companies grew and reinvented themselves at various periods to remain relevant and profitable. Ownership of the Rochester mill went to the Wilson family, and they moved the business exclusively toward corn milling, and named the business Wilson's Corn Products.

Meanwhile, the Acme-Evans folks continued to grow their wheat and corn milling business and they used the brand "E-Z-Bake" from the beginning. E-Z-Bake became an industry icon and a grocery store brand staple throughout all of Indiana and much of the Midwest by the 1960s. In the very early 1980s, Acme-Evans and its affiliated businesses were severely impacted by a grain embargo, and were forced into liquidation. A former Acme-Evans executive bought the E-Z-Bake brands and its distribution throughout the country.

In the early 1990s, Wilsons Corn Products began making all of the E-Z-Bake products. Wilson's Corn Products was far more than E-Z-Bake though. The Wilson family had built its business with customers from Chicago to New York, from Detroit to Cincinnati. The Corn Products operation became a major supplier to various industrial producers of specialty niche chemicals and distillates. Furthermore, Corn Products began a journey into specialty corn hybrids, unique to certain market needs and requirements. Commercial Bakeries around the country began to learn about the various niches that Wilson's Corn Products had established and the business grew significantly as its reputation for quality and service opened doors. Food Service buyers also began to take notice of the quality of the corn based products Wilson's had. There was a unique flavor profile Wilson's had, and that was absent from all others.

In 2006, John Cory acquired both E-Z-Bake and Wilson's Corn Products. Mr. Cory renamed the company to Prairie Mills Products, and kept all brands. The various brands include, E-Z-Bake, Southern Plantation, Dorsels, and Wilson's. Since John purchased the company, he has presided over significant growth in all the various business units of Prairie Mills. The new initiatives the company has underway hope to produce continued growth and opportunity.
